On January 21st, the inaugural voyage of Anhui's first 7000 car capacity LNG dual-fuel Ro-Ro ship, the "Huanghu", along with the opening ceremony of the China-Mediterranean route, took place at Shanghai Haitong Dock.
It is worth mentioning that over 140 years ago, the first self-designed steamship in China, also named "Huanghu", was born in Anqing, Anhui. Carrying a hundred years of dreams and riding on the wave of China's automotive exports, the new era "Huanghu" will set sail again, helping Chinese car companies reach the world.
The "Huanghu" is the first ship of a batch of Ro-Ro ships invested in by Anhui Port and Waterway Group's subsidiary, Anhui Hangrui International Ro-Ro Transportation Co., Ltd. It was designed by the Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, built by the Wuhu Shipyard, and operated independently by Hangrui International Company.
In this project, SEACON fully participated in the ship supervision, technical support, and provided a complete set of ship management and crew management services. From the start of the project to its delivery, we formed an experienced professional team and worked closely with Wuhu Shipyard to ensure the timely and high-quality delivery of the ship. The professional team of SEACON not only supervised the entire construction process but also provided performance optimization and environmental protection technical support, laying a solid foundation for the smooth delivery and future operation of the ship. SEACON will also be responsible for the daily operation and management of the "Huanghu", including technical maintenance, crewing, and safety assurance.
Currently, SEACON more than 10 dual-fuel car transport ships, becoming a leading third-party car ship management company in China.
The ship has a total length of 199.9 meters, a width of 38 meters, with 12 decks (including 4 retractable decks) and 7000 standard parking spaces. It can load various types of vehicles including passenger cars, trucks, construction machinery, and new energy vehicles. The "Huanghu" is equipped with WinGD's latest generation intelligent controlled exhaust gas recirculation (iCER) system, which can reduce methane escape by 50%, sulfur oxide emissions by 99%, and particulate matter emissions by 80%, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by more than 28%. It meets the IMO TIER III emission standards, achieving international leading levels in both environmental performance and transportation efficiency. Additionally, the dual-fuel technology allows the ship to switch between LNG and conventional fuel, greatly enhancing the ship's adaptability and flexibility in fuel selection.
In the context of the growth opportunity for China's new energy vehicle exports and the inevitable trend of decarbonization in the shipping industry, the launch and operation of large dual-fuel car ships are timely and opportune. Decarbonization in shipping is the trend of the times, with green and intelligent being the direction of global shipping industry development. Data shows that currently, there are about 210 new car ship orders worldwide, of which more than 80% use LNG as an alternative fuel. LNG is expected to play a greater role in the green transformation of the car ship market and the entire shipping market.
This maiden voyage of the "Huanghu" carried a total of 4300+ export vehicles including passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and construction machinery, covering brands such as Chery, JAC, Yutong, Dongfeng, Sany, XCMG, and Liugong, departing from Shanghai Port to the Mediterranean, with stops at ports in Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Italy, Spain, and other countries.
